Japanese have the oldest life expectancy in the world, which clearly means that Japanese people live a really long time. As per studies, the average life expectancy rate of Japanese men is 79 years, while for women it is a little over than 86 years.
However, the question arises here is that what in the world causes them to live so long? Given below are some of the reasons that possibly play a key role in this.

  • Use Of Vegetables : Conventionally, Japanese people generally eat large numbers of rice, veg and fish. Their obsession with seaweed and fermented soy provides them beneficial photochemical and lots of vitamins and minerals. However, in recent times, there has been an increase in unhealthy Western habits as Japanese use more breaded and battered meats along with refined sugars, white bread, and plentiful amounts of sweets.
  • Different Cooking Methods : Japanese use different cooking methods that mostly involve a lot of steaming, broiling, pan-grilling, slow-cooking, stir-frying, and fermenting. Moreover, they also make at least one bowl of soup with a meal. They generally prepare small dishes, which helps when they eat veg and fish with lots of fiber from beans, and rice.
  • Use Of Tea : People in Japan drink a lot of Green / Oolong Tea. This tea is full of antioxidants, which are very good for fighting with cancer and in fact helps break up oils in the digestive system.

  • Smaller Plates : Portion control is an important aspect of Japanese cuisine. Small plates make people eat in smaller portions, which eventually cause them to eat less. Japanese generally serve food on smaller plates, this is the reason that they don’t overeat and get fat. This all eventually reduces their chances of heart attack, stroke, or other disorders.
  • Japanese Eat Fresh Food : Japanese food is seriously very fresh and seasonal. The main reason behind this is the fact that in Japanese markets, food is not dated by the day as it is generally dated by the half-hour.
  • Japanese walk, stand, and squat a lot : Japanese commute a lot in their daily life, as it generally involves getting up, going to the station, waiting for their train to come, standing in the train, walking from their station to work, and getting on with life. Public transport is the main mode of transportation in Japan. People mostly use bikes and trains. Surprisingly, a car is considered a luxury in Japan.
  • Japanese Spend A Great Time Outside : Apart from walking almost everywhere, it’s a Japanese tradition to eat out with friends rather than inviting them in the house. As Japanese living spaces are modest and restaurant prices are quite cheap, thus people commonly socialize outside on regular basis. Social coherence and friendships are considered very important for emotional health; hence, it could also be a reason behind their longevity.
  • Japanese Are Very Fond Of Cleanliness : People in Japan are quite obsessed with cleanliness. The cultural methods of Japanese are mostly follow the centuries-old traditions of Shintoism ( a large part of the concept of purification). In Japan, people commonly bathe many times in a day especially in the summer.
