Can Homeopathy Act in Just 2 Minutes? This Hypothesis Could Explain It Scientifically

  • Vikas Singh

Imagine a sudden sensation of colic, or a panic-like episode of breathlessness, easing within two minutes of taking a tiny homeopathic pill. Many patients describe such instances of quick relief, and many homeopathic doctors have witnessed it happen in their clinics for years. But is there any scientific explanation for how a remedy could act so fast? A recent discovery in cell biology may offer a fresh, testable angle on this long-standing clinical observation.

A Clinical Puzzle that Homeopathic Practitioners Have Long Noticed

Homeopathic physicians who have practiced for decades often describe the same pattern. When a right personalized homeopathic remedy, also called “simillimum,” is given during an acute episode, relief can begin within one or two minutes. Symptoms such as pain, spasm, neuralgia, anxiety, palpitations, and breathlessness may start settling almost immediately.

However, when the selected remedy is not the right match, this quick response is usually missing. This pattern has puzzled homeopathic researchers for a long time, and to comprehend it on a deeper level, it’s important to understand the discovery of hemifusome.

About Hemifusome

In May 2025, researchers at the US National Institutes of Health and the University of Virginia described a structure called Hemifusome inside human cells that had never been discovered before. Using a powerful imaging technique, they found two small cell vesicles joined by a partly fused membrane bridge. At the edge of this bridge sits a tiny droplet of fat and protein material, only billionths of a meter wide.

The researchers believe this structure may help cells build new internal compartments, sort proteins and fats, and move material toward recycling or removal. In short, it looks like a small but important “sorting and repair station” inside the cell, and it may point to a form of cellular housekeeping that science did not fully know about before.

Note: No published research currently links hemifusomes to homeopathy. This connection is a new idea, not an established scientific fact.

Bridging the Gap Between Cell Biology and Clinical Homeopathy

A homeopathic researcher, Dr. Jaswant Patil, a physician with more than 43 years of clinical practice, also noted the rapid responses he has repeatedly observed in his own patients. This led him to propose what he calls the “Rapid Simillimum Regulatory Response Hypothesis.” He shared his perspective regarding the hypothetical scientific explanation of homeopathy in a social media post on Facebook.

The idea is that the earliest effect of a personalized homeopathic remedy may not begin with slow, structural repair inside cells. It may start showing immediate positive effects within minutes. The patient may notice a fast chain of biological signals, such as:

  • Medicine is placed under the tongue
  • Sensory nerves in the mouth pick up a signal
  • The signal travels to the brainstem and the body’s autonomic nervous system
  • Cells respond through internal chemical messengers
  • This may change how material is moved and sorted inside the cell
  • Which could, in turn, involve structures such as hemifusomes
  • Eventually helping the body’s cells settle back into a balanced state

In this model, the hemifusome may not be the starting point of the reaction. It could simply be one step further down a longer chain, coming into play only after the nervous system has already responded to the medicine.

A Hypothesis, Not a Conclusion

Dr. Patil is careful to stress that this is a proposed research question, not a proven mechanism. He is not claiming that hemifusomes already explain how homeopathy works. Rather, he is inviting cell biologists, neuroscientists, physiologists and homeopathy researchers to test the idea rigorously.

He has outlined a detailed research approach for this, which includes:

  • Recording the exact moment a remedy is given, then tracking body signals such as heart rate, breathing, skin response and more, for several minutes before and after
  • Comparing a carefully selected individual remedy against a plain placebo and a non-matching remedy, under blinded conditions
  • Checking whether nervous-system changes appear before any changes are seen inside cells
  • Examining remedy samples in the laboratory for any measurable particles
  • Directly observing hemifusomes in cells exposed to the remedy through advanced imaging, to see whether there is any real, repeatable difference compared with controls

He also notes that other explanations, such as expectation, coincidence, or the natural rise and fall of symptoms, must be carefully ruled out before any claim can be made.

Discovery of Hemifusome: Can It Explain the Working of Homeopathy Scientifically?

This hypothesis is a prime example of genuine scientific curiosity at work: noticing something in a new discovery, connecting it to years of clinical experience, and then asking a testable question instead of jumping to conclusions. Whether or not hemifusomes could eventually become a scientific explanation for Homeopathy, this hypothesis pushes homeopathy toward the same standards used to explain modern medicine: careful observation, controlled testing, and open scientific debate.

As Dr. Patil puts it, the real value lies not in claiming an answer too soon, but in asking the right question and following the evidence carefully, step by step.

About Dr. Vikas Singhal

This same level of curiosity and case documentation is something Dr. Vikas Singhal, a classical homeopathic physician based in Chandigarh, values deeply in his own work. He is the Founder and Director of Dr. Singhal Homeo, Chandigarh, and The Homeo Saga International, SAS Nagar. With 23+ years of clinical experience, he has treated more than 47,000 patients from 73 countries, with a patient-centric treatment approach.

Dr. Singhal is widely known for his clinical work in effectively managing complex, chronic, and autoimmune conditions like Osteomyelitis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, SLE, Ulcerative Colitis, Psoriasis, Vitiligo, Asthma, Allergic Rhinitis, IBS, Migraine, Trigeminal Neuralgia, Hypothyroidism, PCOS, and more.

Much like Dr. Patil’s emphasis on documented clinical evidence, Dr. Singhal believes strongly in documenting and publishing the case studies of the holistically recovered patients. His case studies on chronic Osteomyelitis, Keloids, Nephrolithiasis, Pilonidal Sinus, and Anal Fissures have been published in peer-reviewed international journals and have drawn attention from the international homeopathic community.

To present the clinical evidence on international stages, he was invited to several prestigious events, such as the International Homeopathic Seminar in London, the 7th Global AYUSH Summit & Awards 2026, the World Homeopathy Day Event in London, the International Ayush Conclave in Kathmandu, and more.

Recently, he has been invited to present his case study, “A Case of Chronic Osteomyelitis Treated with Homeopathy,” at the 79th LMHI World Congress in Mérida, Mexico, and has also been chosen as one of only 77 resource persons for the International Homoeopathic Conclave (IHC) 2026 in Hyderabad.
